Readers Images of the Total Lunar Eclipse of 8 October 2014

Just before totality with Canon 70D and 200 mm lens. (c) Chris WyattPeak of totality Canon 70D attached to 10" Dobsonian scope with approx 30 times magnification using 42 mm eyepiece projection. (c) Chris WyattAfter totality with same details as 2nd photo

Chris Wyatt sends these great images of the Lunar eclipse from Wednesday, I love the colours he has captured.

Cynthia Ma in Sydney was not as lucky, and only managed a few glimpses of totality between the clouds.

Reader Pictures - Comet PanSTARRS

Image of Comet PanSTARRS from March 3 by Chris Wyatt (click to embiggen). Remember, these images are copyright to Chirs and Cynthia, so ask permission if you want to use them.Image of Comet PanSTARRS from Sydney on March 5 by Cynthia Ma (click to embiggen).

Here's some great images of C/2011 L4 PanSTARRS from readers Chris Wyatt and Cynthia Ma. Chris's image is taken on his Canon S2 IS at about 9pm set at 400 ASA, 3.2 secs at F3.5 with about 6 times magnification. The tail detail is nice. Cynthia's is her first shot of this comet, and has a nice composition.

Still More Solar Eclipse Images (Port Douglas Edition)

My Blog friend and correspondent Cynthia Ma was at Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas for the Total Eclipse. The clouds played hide and seek with the Sun, just as it did for me, but the clouds parted enough for her to get some great shots, including one of the corona.

For these shots Cynthia used a Panasonic Lumix DC with Baader solar film. Terrific results with a really simple setup.

Other Peoples Transit of Venus Images and Videos

Transit of Venus by Cynthia Ma from Sydney.

I'm still processing my images, so I thought I'd put up links to fantastic images that people have sent me or pointed me to. Cynthia Ma's image to the left is great.

Comet Al has a brilliant series of images and a great animation taken using a simple projection system.

Rob Kaufmann has a wonderful shot from Bright Victoria, he had less luck with second contact due to turbulence as this video shows. Chris Wyatt has a great video of second contact from Burren Junction, NSW. Chris of SiriusCybernetics has some great shots. Hristo Pavlov got some nice images from Sydney despite the weather. Adam Marsh has a nice series of photos. Roland Gesthuizen has a great Storify essay.

In the international section a good video from Taiwan. The transit of Venus with a seagull and with a plane . A cloudy one from Dorset by  Stuart and of course a huge Flickr gallery  http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/transitofvenus/

The Bad Astronomer has a great Transit gallery too.

UPDATE:  I forgot Andrew Thomas' stunning images at his blog,  Dennis Persyk's transit images and astronomy boy's transit images. Sorry folks!

Readers Images of the June 2011 Eclipse

Click images to embiggen. Copyright (2011) is vested in the original photographers, so please don't use them without permission.
Brendan O'Brien sends us a composite of eclipse pictures taken by his 12 year old daughter using her Mum's DSLR. Very impressive, we have a budding astrophotographer here.
Reader Julia sent this lovely image of the nearly fully eclipsed Moon taken at 4:30 am local time.
Reader Cynthia Ma in Sydney managed to get this image of the eclipsed Moon through breaks in the cloud.
This is the only image of the eclipse Tony Travaglia of Omaru, NZ salvaged from his Camera card. The Eclipsed Moon glowing through the trees is wonderful though.

Tony has just acquired a Coranado Halpha scope, so I'm looking forward to him sharing images of the Sun from that.

More Images from the December 21st Lunar Eclipse

Correspondent and friend Cyntia Ma sent in this photo of last nights Lunar eclipse. The photo was taken in Hornsby NSW, with a Panasonic DMC-TZ10.

She says "you can see Mare Imbrium where Apollo 15 was landed in 1971. They flew all the way to the MOON using 60's technology with an onboard computer less powerful than my phone and half the time my phone doesn't work!"

Other Australian photos can be seen at this IceInSpace Thread. Spaceweather has a great gallery of eclipse images. Mike Hankey got some good shots, and there is an Astronomy Picture of the Day gallery with great images. As well, the Bad Astronomer has a great video.

Further Update on Cosmic Chocolate

You may, or may not, remember this article about an edible version of the solar system available in Japan, or its follow up.

Correspondent Cynthia Ma promised that next time she was in Osaka she would look up the hotel that was selling these delights, and try them out.

We she did. She reports that she did munch the whole solar system! And she is delighted to report that the yummiest of all is the Earth (lychee liqueur)!

Remember that Lunar eclipse

Remember the Partial Lunar Eclipse of August 17? Well, reader Cynthia Ma has sent in some images of her experience. I particularly like this one. The photo was taken were taken in Hornsby NSW with a "mere DC Casio Exili" as Cynthia says.

Pretty good I think!
