Comet 2010 X1 Elenin: It's Just a Lump of Dirty Ice Guys

So I typed in just "Elenin" into a Certain Famous Web Search Engine, because I was too lazy to type in "Elenin aerith" to find comet 2010 X1's latest observations.

And wow, is there some crazy out there. Comet Elenin is a smoke screen to take our attention away from Nibiru, it's under intelligent control, its' going to hit Earth it's .. the origin of Nibiru AND it's going to hit Earth.

Look, it's just another relatively small lump of dirty ice that periodically comes close to the Sun, it can't hide a 4 Jupiter mass gas giant (we would have noticed), it's not going to hit Earth (we know it's orbit pretty well). No one has gotten all conspiracy-ey over C/2011 C1 McNaught, or A3 Gibs, or even C/2009 P1 Garrad which will be as bright as Elenin.

What is it about Elenin that makes it woo-tastic?

Hey man, i have a question, i dont really beleive all this but theres a girl that saw something interesting about Japan earthquake... let me show you.

Just see the first minute; what do you think?, coincidence?... she predicted the earthquake three days earlier; thats give her a little of credibility dont you think?

Sorry for my clumsy english.

Yes, coincidence. If you draw a wide enough boundary, and call any old thing an "alignment", you can pick up all sorts of stuff. See http://astroblogger.blogspot.com/2011/03/is-march-19th-full-moon-extreme-super.html and use the tidal force equation to work out how much force Elenin exerts on Earth. If the Moon doesn't reliably cause earthquakes, a distant lump of ice isn't.

And Lenoid Elenin is a real person, who posts to the comet discussion groups.

so that's good news. My question then is, how much mass have the comet, and how long is the Orbit of that comet.

Have you recognized the Parameters on JPL Website has changed. The new Data having some irritation. eccentricity have changed to >1 ? this makes it difficult to draw a well orbit in celestia any more.

Yes, see this post http://astroblogger.blogspot.com/2011/03/comet-2010-x1-elenin-for-celestia-and.html. The new elements work just fine in Stellarium, skymap etc., but break Celestia. Even the owrkaround for Cestia doesn't work. I'll have to go to the forums and ask. The old elements work well enough in Celestia to give a reasonable approximation though.

The mass of Elenin is still unknown, the best guess for size is around 3-4 Km, but more data is needed. Current thinking is that is is a hyperbolic "one time only" orbit.

here is a update about the size of the orbit of elenin.
it is shocking!

If comets coma is 120,000 kilometers in Diameter and Earth is only about 14,000 kilometers in diameter, wouldn't comet be like an umbrella to the sun from earth from Sept 25th to Sept 28th when it passes between us and the sun? Remember that Comet at that time will be closer to Earth than it is to the Sun.

The at 100 atoms/cm the coma is a pretty good vacuum. The amount of sunlight blocked will be negligible. And Elenin won't exactly pass between us an the Sun.
