So that is Venus shinging so brightly up there! I wondered. I thought it was too far from the sun.

And it gets much further from the Sun. By June it will be visible well after the sky is dark (and in June these is a close approach to Saturn as well). Living in Brisbane you will have a better view because the eclipic isn't so angled down as it is here. So expect some spectacular Venus nights. (BTW I owe you a magazine)
