Free Planetarium program; Skyview cafe
I am completely dedicated to SkyMap Pro as my astronomy charting software, but it does cost the odd bob or two. Cartes du Ceil is a free program which work rather nicely (after you sort out what downloads where). However, if you have a JAVA enabled web browser, try out SkyView Cafe. It's a little slow over dialup lines, and not as full featured as a commercial application, but it is free, configurable and works quite nicely indeed.
