Moon Dog (while waiting for eclipse)
Well, the same effect occurs with the Moon, here's a Moon Dog I got tonight just after Moon rise, while waiting for the penumbral eclipse later tonight. Jupiter is the dot off to the bottom right of the Moon (click to embiggen for parselenial goodness). 8 second exposure at 400 ASA, canon IXUS.

My Leonids, 2012
So, even though I was up at Dark O'Clock, the sky was completely clouded out, illuminated with flashes of lightning, making me worry I would miss my plane.

In Which I Welcome Rain
Clouded out here (which means that the southern iTelescopes are clouded out too, so no comet Lovejoy). However, the Bettdeckererschnappender Weisle is acting as a Media Liaison officer for the Country Fire Service up in Port Augusta, updating information about the Flinders Ranges fires, which threaten the community of Willunga. the rain has reduced the threat, and she might get home by the end of the weekend. So I am REALLY glad of the rain.

When it Rains, It Pours
My astronomical efforts have been taking a bit of a beating recently, cloud, cloud and more cloud.But at least we got some much needed rain (all 50 mm of it). Woo-Hoo! Back home in Brisbane, that would be a brisk afternoon shower. Here it Adelaide, streets were flooded, houses flooded, and traffic came to a standstill.
Made going to work in the morning interesting. I and some other passengers took photos of the more "interesting" sections of the road.

While the world turns
The weather has not been conducive to astronomy, or going for walks, or soccer or juts about anything. This was the hail from this morning, which was followed by a sunny patch, which was followed by driving rain which was followed by another sunny patch, which was followed by more rain which ws followed ....You get the picture. It has driven the bettdeckererschnappepndreweisle insane trying to get the washing in and out during the breif sunny patches. MiddleOnes soccer match was abandoned in a flurry of hail. Even though I have re-soldered the scopes battery connections, and power is restrored, I don't think I will be doing any observing in th near future.

Venus, Saturn and disintergrating Jetty
Venus and Saturn shine above the Semaphore Jetty as waves pound into it (click to enlarge).A combination of high tide and gale force winds brought the water right up to the edge of the beach. Largs Jetty is pretty high, but still had the occasional wave coming over it. Semaphore Jetty is lower, and the far end was pretty well covered by incoming waves. This image may not be the steadiest, as my round the corner neighbour had to hold the tripod down so it wasn't blown away. Eldest one was flat out moving forward in the wind, and middle one was pretending to be a human kite.
This image gives you a better idea of the waves slamming into the Jetty, The decking at the weather end had been pretty well torn up, but I couldn't get an image of that through the spray. We are lucky that the storm did not hit during the king tide a few days ago.As it was, Birkenhead bridge was closed off due to flooding of the approaches, parts of Port Adelaide and the old Railway yards were flooded.
The boys were stoked by the excitement (and being blown over by the wind), but you can see why my astronomy is not getting anywhere

Morning Rainbow
One of the up sides of the rain *(which is making it hard to document the Venus Saturn encounter), is that we get a lot of rainbows. Here is a beauty that I saw from the kitchen window while making the kids breakfast. A couple of weeks ago, I saw a beauty in the city, a prefect, intense, double rainbow that was floating in front of the buildings. And I didn't have a camera (sigh).*despite all the rain, and the savage storms lashing the east coast, our resivours and rivers are still periolously dry.
