Readers Pictures - The Autumn Aurora
Reader Paul Albers managed to snap some images of the unexpected Aurora on the night of March 1 from Balnaring, Victoria. | He made a star trail too |
With the C/2013 A1 story, and the C/2011 L4 PanSTARRS close approach, I've been dropping the ball a bit, like the not mentioning the aurora of March 1.
Reader Paul Albers saw it, and sent in these nice shots, one stand alone image, and one stacked to make star trails. Paul says:
it caught me by surprise too. The k-index keep on rising, I placed the camera on the door near the back Veranda and saw some colour.
I rushed to the local beach, it was windy and the moon was about to rise. I managed to obtain about 100 images but the quality decreased over time due to the moon washing out the night sky.
The intensity stayed the same with some curtains appearing, overall worth while making the effort.
