Opposition of Jupiter, October 2011
The Opposition of Jupiter is tonight, when Jupiter is biggest and brightest as seen from Earth. Look to the North-east in the early evening, and the north in the late evening. It's the brightest object in the north-eastern sky at the moment. Don't worry if you can't see it tonight, it will be big and bright for many weeks to come, and a worthy target in binoculars or small telescopes.
If you don't have a telescope, now is a good time to visit one of your local astronomical societies open nights or the local planetariums.
